Different espresso filters

I have three different 58mm filter sizes. The one on the right is a 7 gram Gaggia single (never use it). The one on the left is a standard 14 gram Gaggia double filter that holds up to 19 grams for my Bunn machine. The one in the middle is an oddball; it's a 12 gram double that I picked up with one of the ES-1A machines I bought.

The 12 gram double basket pulls just like the double and as far as I'm concerned they're interchangeable. It's handy for use in Gaggia consumer machines, where I stop pulls at ~1.5 ounces.

Anyone else have one of these?

Nothing like it here. I have a triple, double and single for the La spaziale. The double holds up to 16 grams before it has shower head crowding issues.
I do have to wonder how the tapered walls affects channeling and extraction though.

Oh yeah, I forgot I have a 21 gram triple too - never use it anymore. There's less channeling with the 12 gram double, and the extraction is the same as a 14 gram double, probably due to the fewer number of holes.

I also have various 58mm filters including some triples.  I've never used the triples but
every time I do a chemical backflush I use the single to pull a couple sink shots to lube the machine.

95% of my drinks are made with my Synesso 18 g and more recently the VST 18 g baskets. I'm not sure what the big deal is with the VST's but I am giving it enough time to make a real comparison. When using doses below 17 g and usually 15 1/2 - 16 1/2 g for ssome nice bright SO's I use the old LM double that came with the machine. I also have a couple of triples including the Synesso but almost never touch them.
