Buying a Thermocouple / Data Logger for my Probat

This looks like a pretty good deal; includes two thermocouples.

On my PC:
Get Arduino and TC4
Download and install Arduino IDE and Artisan program
Download TC4 aArtisan drivers and save them in Artisan scatch book location (My Document\Arduino\aArtisan)
Download TC4 libraries for thermcouples etc.. and save them to Artisan scatch book location (My Document\Arduino\libraries\...)

Open Arduino IDE, and choose File-Scatchbook-aArtisan, then Upload, and your setup is done.
Run Artisan, pick TC4 device, and you should see the temperatures when you click on ON button.
If your machine is not the newest one, choose to sample every 2-3 seconds to make machine more responsive.

I have the setup at this very computer and roasting with it every day and I will be happy to help.

If possible, I'd like to go with something more like the Amprobe. Not only is it more cost effective, but it also gives me a temp readout at the roaster, as well as at the computer if hooked up to Artisan. And on top of that, it doesn't require me to do any wiring - which is completely out of my depth.

Just my .02.  I found the arduino to be a little flakey.  Nothing pissed me off more than loosing the scope mid roast and that was with 250g, I would be seriesly upset if it was 2 lbs.  The flakeyness was worse with a mac than the windows machine and with linux I did more computer work than coffee work.   For me, I hooked up two Delta DTB's at $80 a piece.  A meter that reads two TC's is going to cost near than anyway, If you decide to use the pid function later you have it and if you just want it to read numbers I have found it to work FLAWLESS.  I am pretty sure you can even hook the third and fourth Delta up in series through the USB to serial connection (if i can figure it out anyone can).  I found this to be WAY more robust than the Arduino and TC4 (which is very cool but i have three of them that don't work)

I use Arduino for other things, like teaching my son electronics etc...
Also I want to build Milo's widget to control my Hottop at some point.
It works great until it dies, obviously.

I have something similar to this Tenma meter, mine doesn't have hi/lo alarms.  Simple and reliable.
