For the folks that have owned a Newco OCS-8 or OCS-12, how well has yours' held up? How long have you owned it and have you had any reliability issues?

Welcome to GCBC South... I found this place looking for the Newco OCS.. I never bought one but I have learned to make really good coffee.. roasting and brewing.. for what its worth the most reliable method of brewing I have is a pour over with a filter.. there are better tasting methods but filtered pour over will get good tasting caffeine in your veins the easiest.. personally I like the Clever Coffee Brewer but I like my press pots and vac pots and.. the list goes on.. for bigger crowds I brew into a thermos

I will find the right small commercial brewer or fix the one I have eventually then I will have 200F water on tap all the time, until then I will stick with a little more work for a lot better coffee

My OCS 12 is as old as the Newco thread that Peter mentioned in his reply. I availed myself of the GCBC discount back then, and the brewer is still doing its job years after I bought it. I don't use it every day, but only about once every two weeks when I have more than 10 people dropping by for coffee and I'm too lazy to man the espresso machine for them. No issue with it so far.

I just bought a Coava Kone + Chemex which might make me use the OCS less and less.  ;)

Stumbled across this old thread when looking for a replacement for my OS-8.

Spring and seal at the bottom of the filter basket valve went out after 4 years.

Called Newco for a replacement and they didn't have one.  They are not sure if they ever will.

Still seems to be functional as a giant pourover (gotta remember not to take out the carafe out until everything is done brewing), but will probably eventually settle on a new Cuisinart DCC-1200.

Would like a Techni but $300 is just a little too steep for me.
I justified the Technivorm based on amortizing the extra cost over a single year. I get the best possible coffee (versus my old Braun) and it is well worth LESS than $1 per day.

Now that first year has gone by, and I never regretted getting the Technivorm.
Life is too short to drink bad wine (or bad coffee!)

No one ever regretted buying quality.

I like your thinking.  I'm reconsidering.

been using mine for over 5 years. still brews a terrific pot and my favorite thing about this brewer is the carafe.  it keeps my coffee nice and hot for hours, so i can brew a full pot and drink throughout the day.

the only issue i've had with mine is that the auto shut-off feature doesn't work most of the time.  at the end of the cycle it should beep a few long tones and then shut off.  instead, i get short repeating beeps that don't stop unless i manually press the red button.  don't know what's wrong, but that's the only thing that doesn't work on my machine.

i actually switched from a technivorm to the newco and honestly, i couldn't be happier.

I brewed two pots of coffee on my OCS 12 this morning to test brew "blends" that a local supplier is offering to my office. I bought an extra carafe when I bought the machine back in the day...  :) The OCS hasn't seen service for more than a year since I got my Chemex and Coava Kone. Now I have to say that I am impressed at how well the OCS still brews drip coffee. And because it is so easy to use, it's going back into service in my house for when I have large groups dropping in for coffee.  :)
