How to Lube the SAMA piston
« on: May 27, 2013, 01:14:16 PM »
Who can tell me how I'm supposed to do this ? (without removing the piston, please....)

And what I'm supposed to use ? (food safe lube?  canola oil?)

The SAMA thanks you.

Pull the screen off and get some Dow 111 and dab up in the cylinder liberally with the lever pressed down, then work the lever up and down a dozen times or so and then get rid of the excess 111.

Poifect.
Actually the screen blew itself off when I adjusted  the grind too tight after the Pharos got modded....leading me to this opportunity to lube.   I'm pretty sure there's Dow 111 out in the shed.

Thanks

I wonder if lithium grease would work - it could take the edge off of those caffeine jitters...

Couldn't find any Dow 111 OR any lithium grease :-)),
but what I did find is called
"Sanitary PETROL-GEL Lubricant".
"Technical White Grease....valves - pistons -o-rings"
"NSF"
"packaged by McGlaughlin Oil Co."

Sound okay?  It was in the drawer of espresso machine "lubes and sealants", so I'm guessing this is what I got it for however many years ago I got it...

High melting point and food safe..... seems like it should work just fine.
