hygrometers?
« on: March 03, 2013, 08:25:38 PM »
Anyone have hygrometer suggestions, or use one?  I could go cheapo route, go mid range with fluke knock-offs from MCM, or bite the bullet and get a fluke?

I roast outside and live a few blocks from the ocean.  Humidity here swings all over the board, making it a little frustrating to roast consistently; internet weather sites are approximate, and today's level was way off  :(

I don't know much about these tools, but I'm eyeing those in the $30-80 range at mcm.  I just don't like single-purpose tools, would be nice if I could combine one with multi-meter, temp, tds, and whatever other probulator functionality.

I have one similar to the cheapo unit you linked to, and use it to monitor the humidity in my basement so I know when I can leave the windows open or should close them and turn on the dehumidifier to keep my greens happy.  I don't know why the cheapo won't work for you too; it doesn't have to be uber-accurate does it?

If you are a member at Costco, check out their cheapo weather station for something like $60 or $70.

A cigar humidor would work for you and they are not expensive.  Or you can go really cheap.

Wal-Mart sells inexpensive ones.
I've used them in the incubator when hatching chicks...
They have been perfectly fine.

I use several of these digital temp/hygrometer devices in my humidors from Radio Shack to Thermapen brands and they all function well and give near identical readings in when in the same location
