Rattleware Cupping Kit
« on: January 04, 2013, 08:08:59 AM »
I was browsing Amazon the other day when I came across this Rattleware Cupping Kit:

Quote
Essential for any cupping, this kit includes all supplies to make your coffee cupping a success! Included are 12 oval coffee bean trays, 12 cupping spoons, 12 cupping bowls and 12 label holders for use with our oval coffee bean trays.

Not a bad deal considering that most cupping spoons alone are $5-10 each. Of course there are only 2 reviews, a one star and a five star. Anyone ever seen one of these kits in the flesh?

They are currently out of stock. Even if it was in stock, I'm still on the fence. I would like to have a few cupping spoons. Oddly enough, with all my coffee paraphernalia, I don't own a single cupping spoon. The trays I'm not that worried about. The cups would be nice, with the wider opening at the top, but I do have a few Ikea cups that I use for cupping:

I use soup spoons to cup. Cupping spoons just have a deeper bowl, right?

Yep, deeper bowl and a bit more goosenecked.  Milo's broker gave me one when I said, "Oh, I am with Milo and need a spoon for a cupping course."  Milo is still miffed since I walked with the logo-ed spoon.  I let him do the heavy lifting.

The spoons which Prima sells can be grabbed locally from a restaurant supply store for ~$10/doz.

In that case, a dozen cupping spoons at near $1 each at Prima

Orphan has fancier ones.

Does weight of the spoon equate to better cupping performance?

Ask for cupping spoons? I'm just kinda surprised that cupping spoons would be prevalent enough to be found in thrift stores and stocked at restaurant supply stores. They seem to me to be a very specialized item. Is coffee all they are used for?a

Goatboy might be saying Prima sells soup spoons and only calls them cupping spoons.
