Modding my Macap MXP to stepless. :)

     I have owned my Macap MXP for a while now.  If anybody owns one they know it's a great grinder but it's stepped.. Were talking 3-4 notches only for espresso. I've used tamping to dial in until now. I'm at the point where the sweet spot for espresso lands in between notches so I gotta do this or the grinder is hittin the road.. Ordered the parts (Worm drive, steppless collar) from ChrisCoffee.com.  Only cost $40! Oh and shipping from them to Canada only took 3 days! 
     I found this mod on CG (Hope I'm not cross posting in any way).  Anywho I got in contact with the user who did this mod and it worked for him beautifully.  I'm gonna do the mod this week and will post pictures once it's done.

Mod complete!

You will need

- 18V drill
- Center punch
Or an 8" drill press
- Philips screw driver
- Matching screwdriver and bit for the screws you are using
- Razor blade

Collar
- 7/64" drill bit
- 6/32" tap
- 3x 6/32" x 1/2" screws

Worm drive
- 5/32" drill bit
- 10/32" tap
- 10/32" x 1/2" screws

1. Remove collar from grinder and using the razor blade remove the original marker sticker from the collar.
2. Mark, center punch, drill and tap all 3 holes using the collar as a reference.
3. Attach the new adjustment collar plate.
4. Remove the bottom plate to catch all metal shavings when drilling into the grinder body
5. Mark, center punch, drill and tap 2 holes wherever you want the worm drive.  (I chose the back to make it look OEM)
6.  Vacuum out all shavings and attach the worm drive

This took my about 1.5 hours.  Make sure you have good drill bits.  I snapped 3 bits just drilling into the collar.. This is a pretty easy mod.  If you own a stepped Macap I highly recommend this mod! Total cost for parts $70.

It really isn't. It's more or less drill, tap and mount.
