Oh no, my Gaggia Achille is leaking..
« on: December 10, 2012, 07:53:54 AM »
After 2 years of great shots I notice yesterday that my Gaggia Achille is leaking.  I read long ago that these machines develop leaks.  Looks like mine hit that spot.  Too bad too, I really like everything about this machine... except the steam wand and was about to put a Silvia wand on it..

I ordered new o-rings for it today since this seems to be the "normal" culprit.  We'll see.

Sorry to hear that Larry.

Good thing you have several backups to go to while this one is down.

You might say you've found your machine's Achille's heel? ;D

It does have a nasty reputation for leaking.

Simple fix.  I found an old thread on HB and learned it was just the o-rings.  Two sizes that are available on eBay.  $15 and I have a lifetime supply... (they came in packs of 25 and 100 and I need 1 and 4 respectively).

Works like new now.  whooohooo

The O-rings are its Achille's heel.
The original 0-rings were black rubber the new ones are silicon... supposedly they last longer.  But even if they don't it only talke 20 minutes to change them.

I just love how you make everything seem so easy to do.

Hey! The man's got a crescent wrench and a pair of vice grips and he's not afraid to use them.   <channeling my innner-Tex  ;)>
